Spending hours creating the perfect email marketing strategy, only to see it go almost completely unread. Perhaps one or two conversions come out of it, but that is about it. To make sure this doesn't happen to you, we give 5 tips to help you optimise your email marketing strategy.

5 tips to make your email marketing strategy convert better

1. The subject line is crucial

The subject line is a very important part of an email.. This is the first point of contact with the reader in their inbox, after which they decide whether or not to open the email. The content of the email may be exactly what the reader would like to read, but if the subject line doesn't land, the reader will never find out. Say what added value the email offers, keep it concise, trustworthy, personal and, of course, above all relevant!

2. Write for the internet

Speaking of concise: make sure you write for the internet and not for a publishing house or a Sunday newspaper reader. The email in our inbox, especially personal email, is a fleeting reading experience. Keep sentences short and punchy. Long compound sentences or complicated wordplay unfortunately stand out less in an email.

3. Use personalised emails for your target audience

The strength of email marketing lies in the fact that you can communicate in a highly personalised way. The message reaches the people in your email audience directly. So use this to your advantage! Build on earlier points of contact, address your target audience personally and use the knowledge you have about your target audience to show that you know them. That way you strike the right chord and can build a relationship with your contacts. Be sure not to forget to include this in your email marketing strategy.

4. Add value

You don't want your first priority to be pushing your product. Offer a good tip, an interesting document or a special offer, for example. If you really want to go the extra mile, combine this with a touch of personalisation. Think, for example, of a personal discount or a unique promotion on a product or service that fits well with what the target audience you are targeting is looking for. When you help and inform your target audience well, your   conversion rate will increase and you will get more return from your email marketing strategy.

5. Encourage action with a good CTA (Call To Action)

As an entrepreneur or marketer, this will be no surprise to you. Yet in many cases this doesn't go well. A clear CTA is often forgotten. Although you certainly don't want to push too much in an email, it remains important that your target audience is told which action they should take. Often calls to action are still very generic: read more, view the offer, view more information, etc. A handy tip is to emphasise the most important benefit. What does your call to action deliver for the reader?

Tools for your email marketing strategy

There are many tools you can use to set up an email marketing strategy for your business. Some tools focus mainly on e-commerce and web shops, while other tools are better suited to the B2B market. In the Netherlands, Mailchimp is often the first choice. This is probably the most popular platform for sending newsletters. This is mainly because Mailchimp is free to start with yet still includes a number of extensive features.

Create a well-thought-out email marketing strategy!

With the tips above you can get started on setting up and developing your email marketing strategy. With these tips, readers will convert faster and it will help your business grow.
